Travel

There are two possibilities to reach Tartu.

Direct flights

Direct flights to Tartu Airport are now available. 

• AirBaltic operates flights between Riga and Tartu (every day). Additional information on AirBaltic homepage.
• Estonian Air operates flights between Stockholm and Tartu (4 times a week). More information on Estonian Air homepage.

The airport is situated 11 km from the city centre. City can be reached with Airport Shuttle or taxi. Most taxi drivers speak some English and all taxis are equipped with meters.

Arrival via Tallinn

Tallinn, capital of Estonia, shares more connections with Europe.

Tallinn International Airport locates on the edge of the city. Tallinn bus terminal is situated close to the airport - you can take a taxi or public transportation to get there. As Tallinn airport is a relatively small one, it is easy to find the area where public transportation and taxis are waiting in front of the building. Bus (No 2, from the airport) stops not too far from the bus terminal (the “Autobussijaam” stop).

From Tallinn Sea Port it is easiest to take the taxi to the bus terminal. But also tram No 2 (towards Ülemiste) or bus No 2 will take you there (the “Autobussijaam” stop).

Buses from Tallinn to Tartu  leave almost every 30 minutes from 5 a.m. until 12 p.m., usually from platform 9. Schedules are available at Bussireisid webpage. Buses are comfortable and may offer snacks and drinks for sale. Some buses are equipped with WiFi. The distance from Tallinn to Tartu is 185 km and it takes 2,5 hours to reach Tartu by bus.
