Product Development Methodologies and Impementation in Estonian and Russian Border Regions

Prodemet is financed by BSR IIIB-Interreg IIIA Priority North Measure 2. Tartu Science Park is the Lead Partner of the project. Other partners involved: Tartu City, Estonian University of Life Sciences and Pskov State Polytechnical Institute.

Project takes place 09.10.2007-10.04.2009.

Objective:

To encourage sustainable development and cross-border cooperation between Estonian and Russian border regions and to create conditions for the genesis of entrepreneurship. To strengthen connections between the entrepreneurs of the regions by creating opportunities for the cooperation. 

Sub-objectives:

• Enhancing competence in the area of product development in the participating regions;
• Developing the competence among teaching staff in product dvelopment;
• Developing product development competencies of the entrepreneurs.

Activities:

• Survey about the situation of product development in metal- and machinery sector in Tartu and Pskov;
• Developing curriculums of metal- and machinery product development for the higher educational institutions;
• Publishing the curriculum;
• Exchange of experiences between educational institutions, local authorities and entrepreneurs - seminars, visits to companies;
• Training for product development experts in Pskov.

Results:

• As a result of the survey the situation of the product devlopment in the companies of partner regions has been clarified. This survey acts as a base for the curriculum pointing out methods, bottlenecks and current needs.
• Curriculum - developed and published which can be used in the engineering studies of higher educational institutions. This curriculum is also available for further education of specialists with engineering vackground.
• Entrepreneurs and partners of Pskov and Tartu have participated in exchange of best practice resulting with better knowledge of product development competencies and current situation. Also new contacts have been made between entrepreneurs from two regions.
• Training for product development experts in Pskov has been organized to share EULS' knowledge in the field of product development in metal and machinery sector. A base has been laid for future cooperation between the universities.
